Analytical Chemist

Location: Middlesex Salary: neg

Candidates should have a good degree from a UK University which contains a high percentage of Analytical Chemistry.

They should have several years’ post-graduate experience, preferably in a GLP/GMP Laboratory, of pharmaceutical and general analytical chemistry.

The experience should be “hands-on” with the ability to discuss the fundamental chemical reactions involved and to be able to offer troubleshooting skills when methods or techniques do not work as expected.

Practical experience should include “wet” and Classical chemistry and full Pharmacopoeia testing, Instrumental techniques such as ICP, AAS with graphite furnace, Karl Fischer, FTIR, UV/Vis, HPLC, GC, GC/MS, GC/HS, IC, etc. are also used regularly.

As a lot of the work is non-routine it requires the ability to assess methods for their suitability and to identify possible problems. To also troubleshoot when problems occur and to be able to work under pressure when deadlines have to be met.

Therefore the ability to handle different types of analysis as required and to learn other techniques would be essential. Full training would be given and a personal Training Record maintained.

Ability to use various software packages

Candidates should be interested in business principles particularly as applied to the costing of the various types of work and to understand how a business operates.

The Company needs to meet strict deadlines and all staff are expected to agree to work overtime at weekends or in the evenings if necessary.

Overall there needs to be enthusiasm and a thorough interest in both the scientific work and the progress of the Company.

Competitive salaries, a bonus system and good benefits.
